How to find Glenalmar Holiday Cottage

Tucked away in Scotland’s south west corner, the Machars is an untouched, quiet gem where you can enjoy a quiet and enjoyable stay.

Whether you are coming by boat or car, we have provided some directions below for how to get here.

Directions

Getting here: Travelling from the south follow the A75 from Dumfries until you reach Glenluce, while still on A75 take left turn onto A747 Port William. Continue for 5 miles and you will pass ‘Cock Inn’ as you reach the coast. Glenalmar is just 3/4 of a mile further – there is a sign at the gate.

From the North follow signs for Stranraer on A77 taking left fork for A75 (Dumfries) approx. 3 miles beyond Cairnryan. Follow A75 until you pass Glenluce and just at the top of by-pass take a right turn for Port William. Continue on for 5 miles and you will pass the ‘Cock Inn’ as you reach the coast. Glenalmar is just 3/4 mile further- there is a sign at the gate.

Take the A75 from Stranraer through Castle Kennedy and after the Glenluce turnoff look for a right turn onto the A747. Continue here past the ‘Cock Inn’ and along the coast road. The cottage is located just 3/4 of a mile further on – there is a sign at the gate.

Glasgow (Prestwick) is reasonably close with cheap flights, especially from London Stanstead and many new low cost routes from Europe have recently opened up. Ryan Air has currently 20 continental routes includingBarcelona, Girona, Bournemouth Brussels, Charleroi, Cardiff,Derry, Dublin, Faro, Frankfurt, Gothenburg. Northern Ireland is less than 2 hours away by ferry! From Belfast or Larne the carriers are:- Stena Line or P & O Ferries. From the Continent travel by ferry to Newcastle on Tyne from – IJmuiden, Kristiansand or Gothenburg, Stavanger, Haugesund. More details here.
